Hai and welcome,
I would like to share a thought, some words from me to you.
I’ll start with a question, “what do we know”.
On the face of it, you would personally think, “I know enough”, or “I know what I need to know”.
Flip the card, and some would say, “they know too much”, or “secrets must be protected for the benefit and safety of us all”.
Recent history has proved to me, (and I speak only for me), that I want to know more, that what I thought I knew was only the start of a path. My younger mind was always asking questions, the famous word “WHY” I used in almost every sentence as a 3-4-5 yr old, and it's ongoing. But only recently I understood that the question “WHY” is fundamentally more important to me, than I ever could have imagined.
“WHY” had me asking questions on the 1st night of the Gulf War round 1, what could be said as my first foray into geopolitics. I was awake all night watching the news reports that was to be confirmed as the most comprehensive coverage to a conflict the world has ever seen. I had school to attend, but any questions I had on this most significant global event were never to be answered in any classroom at the time.
What did we know of the implications of this intervention, very little at the time, we certainly did not know Saddam Hussein was to be left in power, and that down the road conflict 2nd Gulf War was to become..
One distinct difference between these conflicts, and that is, “what do we know after the fact”. We never had the insight from the 1st conflict, as we do from the 2nd conflict.
This insight was brought to us by individuals and organisations that like me, witness an action, an event and ask "what do I know about this event?, what do I not know?
On a scale that is unprecendented, we have access to information that would never have entered the public arena, whether the Chelsea Manning Iraq War logs, or the NSA Files from Edward Snowden. Witnessing these actions (I personally consider them heroically humanitarian) in my life time, and watch the fallout of the truth, has been nothing short of astounding. Conversations are happening in the seats of power that would have been unheard of just 5 years ago. You may think I am premature in gushing praise for these guys, and you would be right, my words here are based on the information I have at this moment in time. Consciously reviewed masses of information from every avenue I can find. Notice I said I. No one reads for me. No one creates my opinion, my opinion is a creation of my own thoughts. Will I change this opinion, in short yes. If further information is presented, verfied sure, my mind will change. 5 years ago I held differing beliefs to that I hold today.
The law is an interpretation, our governments interpret the law each and every day. NSA revelations have revealed this, we all understood that blanket surveillence must be illegal, but interpretation of the law had our governing powers actually believing they were within the laws of their respected jurisdictions.
This I see playing out for many years to come, but the game is in another ball park already to the one we currently play in. Obama has stated that NSA activities are to be tweaked, a little work around here, a statement of misdirected intent there, and hey presto, the the sleight of hand has worked and everyone just moves along.
MEDIA.
What angle is to be gained from the information provided by the media, whether they report from the field, or the news desk with an expert/specialist in middle east conflict, politics, etc etc. Everyone has an angle, I like to find that angle and put the context of that information along with the information provided. This gives a broader understanding of what is being reported.
Jump to Ukraine, Crimea. The west has vital interests in Ukraine, by way of NATO expansion, and protection of the west from the bear that is Putins Russia. Head to the news desk of Russian TV stations and the reporting is unrecognisable to what we see. But the question everyone should be asking, is not who is right or wrong. The question you should be asking is what are we not being told, what is not being reported by either side of the red curtain. I do not pretend to have those answers, I am seeking them as much as the next person. But if you take what is told to you on its face value, do not question what is being told to you, then you accept. You blindly accept an others point of perspective without ever finding out for your self.
I would not be here today if I accepted everything told to me as gospel truth. This age I find my self in today is as glorious as it is dangerous. Information is out there. But what of its validity.
Our governments and and their agencies have mastered the information war. They have worked on this for centuries. We have all seen twitter go complete batshit over a rumour. Information is power as they say. But if you control the information and set the narrative, would this be classed as absolute power.
Many who may read this will say, "Tell us something we don't know", and to this I would say you are already on a path, its to those who seek a path that with these comments I hope to create a query, a query that will always have you asking, "WHAT DON'T I KNOW"
Everyone has an interest, I consider this in all information received. Who is delivering this message. Who are their resources, who are their backers. Think tanks, political parties, lobby groups, financial behemoths all have a self interest. That is not necessarily you!!! Forewarned is forearmed.
Well thats it from me, feel free to follow on twitter @topman52001
